Here We Go Again
Sunday June 27th 2010, 9:47 pm
Everybody, SING with me! "Here comes the rain again….." Oh dear. Can someone PLEASE STOP the rain!?
Of course I COMPLETELY soaked the garden yesterday. Now there’s an absolute downpour going on out there. And today I even found a seed that had been washed out by the crazy 12+ inch rain we had a couple weeks ago. I’d been wondering why that little plant had never sprouted. Well….asked, and answered.
Grrr…..
Slop
Thursday June 17th 2010, 7:54 pm
Just the other day (as a certain 5 yo was about to be banished from the table) I went to another room and quietly said to Tim in frustration, "Obviously…. how could he POSSIBLY like and be expected to eat the ‘SLOP’ I fix every night!?"
Fast forward to tonight. Everyone was happy with the meal and eating well. Caleb dropped a piece of his corn on the table. Being the "in-the-moment" kind of guy that he is, (he was also meowing and pretending to be a cat) he leaned over and ate it off the table just using his mouth.
Tim: "Caleb. Don’t do that. We don’t eat like cats. We eat more like monkeys."
Me (afraid of where this could lead): "Um… Daddy? I think we probably just eat like people."
Tim (getting "wise" to what I was thinking): "Oh yes. You’re probably right. Caleb, eat like a person."
Ethan (having a great time and getting into the spirit): NO! We eat like Piggs! We eat SLOP!!! Yay! Get it? Cuz our name is Pigg? hahahaha!"
I live at the Zoo, or the Barnyard, or… something.
Longing
Thursday June 17th 2010, 2:54 pm
This weather (sun – humid – rain – more rain – more sun – more humidity) makes me absolutely LONG for the land of my birth!
On the up-side: I am so grateful that, although over 12 inches of rain have fallen at/ around our house, we are in no way flooded. I don’t know yet how happy the garden will be about all the water or if it will be too much for it. But the house is dry and we’re all safe.
That out of the way, I hate the heat and humidity.
Nerd Quotient
Monday June 14th 2010, 7:20 pm
Tonight I told Tim that Caleb had said, "Okay, Bubby. Now let’s do this e-spear-mint."
Tim: So, are you saying there’s a high nerd quotient in this house?
Me: I kind of think using the term "nerd quotient" proves it’s a top- down issue.
Don’t Get It
Friday June 11th 2010, 7:05 pm
The last couple days the news has been FULL (esp. during the sports segment) of Big 12/ PAC 10/ Big 10/ WHATEVER talk. I just don’t get it. Who cares? I’m serious.
I can sense the heart attacks that are occurring in some homes right now. But …… I just don’t get it. The TV sports people are all a-buzz, and can’t wait to give us the latest updates — "as they happen!" But it’s still college football. Every team will still play some other teams. At the end of the season there will still be about 50 bowl games and the only way a team WON’T play in a bowl game is because they don’t have enough players or something. It’s still a system I don’t get. (Why no play-offs like the NFL?) And mostly because it’s football and it’s NOT the Denver Broncos, I just don’t care much anyway. In fact, I have a hard time keeping up with them too, living where I live.
Oh well, I don’t have to "get" everything. That’s okay.
