Note About Last Post

An interesting note (at least to me) about the last post:  My mother’s parents (Grandpa Frank and Grandma Fern) were at our house last week.  I’ll have to write about that later. But sitting at supper one night we were chatting about various things; allergies being one of those things.  Grandma mentioned that she used to get headaches (usually attributed to allergies) that were so bad she could hardly do anything, and would often vomit from the pain!  I never knew this about her, and it was especially interesting to me since I have just been through one of these episodes.  I know my dad has had headaches that bad, but I didn’t realize that I’m apparently lucky enough to have gotten it from both sides of the family!

She said that was a major reason for them moving from Nebraska — because she got so sick for so much of the time.  Same goes for their move from Iowa.  They both said they had pretty much planned on living in Iowa forever.  But the humidity and allergies were just unbelievable; so they decided they’d better move before the kids got older, when it would be even harder on them.  They knew the move was hard on the kids as it was, but I guess it was really hard on Grandma to live like that.

So of course now I wonder how Ethan (and any other kids) will come out on this.  Tim’s mother (and other relatives) have a lovely history of atrocious headaches.  So he also gets the potential for it from both sides as well.          Ahhh… genetics.    emoticon    emoticon

“Mommy sick!”
Friday October 06th 2006, 2:21 pm

Yesterday I was more sick than I’ve been in….. I don’t even remember how long!  Years!  My primary ailment was an unbelievable migraine on the left side of my head.  I get these more often than I’d like, but this one was so bad that I ended up vomitting 4 times throughout the day!  (I KNOW everyone wanted to know that!  Thank goodness hardly anyone ever reads this blog!)  Every hour — shoot! every 5 minutes! — was a struggle.  It was a colossal effort to feed and diaper my child, who of course seemed to have no concept of the pain I was in.  And don’t get me started on how hard it was to keep him from body slamming me as I lay in misery on the couch counting the minutes before Tim got home!  He finally did give up and go elsewhere for entertainment; but he frequently came back to see if it was okay to jump on Mommy yet.  So I had to keep up my guard.

Anyway!  When Tim finally got home I was so relieved that I made my way upstairs to the bedroom where I crashed.  Really, it was just new surroundings in which to pray for death; but at least I could turn off the lights, put a pillow over my face, and listen to the TV without worrying about Ethan jumping on me.  Plus I knew he was in good hands, and I didn’t have to worry about what trouble he’d get into either.

Well after Tim and Ethan had eaten and played for a while I suddenly heard Ethan stomping up the stairs (on his way to getting ready for bed), and in a sing-song voice he was repeating, "Mommy sick!  Mommy sick!  Mommy sick!"  Thank goodness I had advance warning, because then he came running into the bedroom and JUMPED up on the bed!  (Apparently he had escaped while Tim was washing his hands or something.  Tim was close behind him and stopped him from really nailing me too hard.)  I must admit that it was pretty funny to hear him singing about me being sick in a voice that clearly stated, "I’m just repeating what Daddy told me; I have no idea what it means!"  Plus, by then I was starting to feel a touch better, so that always helps the humor return a little bit.

Usually these migraines last all day, end promptly at 10pm (or a little before) and then I’m ready to do the work I needed to do all day.  But then it’s time to go to bed!  However, this one lasted till about 11:30pm, at which time I was starving and actually exhausted.  So I came downstairs, ate a quick bite, and went back to bed.   I hate days like this.
